With all the snow we’ve been getting, it helps to have some fun indoor activities on hand that incorporate creativity and fun. The following is an excellent project to inspire kids to imagine and innovate, while also keeping them warm and busy. Easy to make and long-lasting, this snow clay is the perfect alternative to the abundant real stuff outside!
• 1 cup flour
• 1cup water
• ½ cup salt
• 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
• ½ teaspoon cream of tartar
• 2 tablespoons white tempera paint
• 1 tablespoon white glitter
To make a batch, combine all the ingredients in a medium-size pan and cook over medium heat, constantly stirring. The mixture will begin to come together after about 5 minutes, and then you can remove the pan from the heat.
Place the dough onto a sheet of wax paper and let cool, about 15 minutes.
The mixture can be stored in an air-tight container or baggie in the refrigerator for about 2 weeks.
Younger children will have fun rolling the dough and shaping it with their hands. Try using cookie cutters to cut out shapes.
