MA STEM Week: Candy Engineering

There can be so many twists on this classic engineering project, usually completed with marshmallows. If you have marshmallows on hand, feel free to use them, or try another candy this time around. How does it work with gum drops? What about gummy bears?
YOU’LL NEED:
Marshmallows or candy for trials, toothpicks, flat working surface
DIRECTIONS:
1. Gently poke a marshmallow with a toothpick.
2. Connect them together with other toothpicks to create your own design.
TIPS:
Encourage children to use their imagination to design a cool structure! Or, give them a goal. For example: Design a free-standing structure that is at least three levels (toothpicks) tall but only one level wide.
