Gee’s Bend Fabric Scrap Quilt

The story of the Gee’s Bend quilts is a powerful one—Black women in a remote Alabama community turning necessity into world-renowned abstract art by using scraps from worn clothing and feed sacks to create vibrant, symbolic textiles. As our Artists of the Month, their work inspires us to invite young artists to design their own quilt square using geometric shapes and a mix of colorful calicos.
