ExpiredTuesday Studio

For the month of March each week we will be creating some art that will be become one giant one in the end. Our inspiration for the art is something fierce, fury and the king of the jungle… LIONS!

  • March 5th
    March 5, 2019
    11:00 am - 1:00 pm
    - This month we'll be making a paper mache lion. Help construct the basic form using items from our recycle crates like cardboard boxes and plastic containers, then begin layering it with strips of newspaper dunked in paste. Each week we will work on another part of this piece which will be displayed in the Museum!
  • March 12th
    March 12, 2019
    11:00 am - 1:00 pm
    - Today in the second week of our project, we will be adding a couple of layers of newspaper strips to create the paper mache lion. Kids can dunk the strips into the flour paste and learn to sculpt it around the form that has been created. We'll talk about what the final piece will look like and think about where to hang it in the Museum.
  • March 19th
    March 19, 2019
    11:00 am - 1:00 pm
    - Today we are getting out the paints! It's time to add some color to our paper mache lion and detail his face. It's also time to begin working on the cardboard strips for his mane and investigating other art techniques. Kids can paint and stamp to add texture to their own individual pieces that will ultimately encircle the face.
  • March 26th
    March 26, 2019
    11:00 am - 1:00 pm
    - We're almost done with our community art paper mache lion! Today our focus is on the mane again, but this time we'll use a different art technique -- decoupage. Learn how to layer tissue to create new colors! The decoupaged pieces will be mixed with the stamped one from a previous week, giving the lion a beautiful mane with lots of depth and interest!
